Toronto Accounting Firm Websites That Work Outside Tax Season

Most Toronto CPA firm websites spike in February and go quiet the rest of the year. We build service-depth sites that get cited in AI search for corporate tax, bookkeeping, and cross-border work every month, not just T1 season.

The Toronto accounting market splits roughly into three segments: Bay Street and downtown CPA firms serving mid-market and corporate clients, North York and Scarborough practices serving immigrant entrepreneur communities (with real demand for cross-border US-Canada and foreign income expertise), and the long tail of small-business-focused firms scattered across Etobicoke, East York, and the inner suburbs. Each segment has distinct search behaviour, and most CPA websites treat all three identically with a generic Services page and a bio of the partners.

Tax season is a traffic event, not an SEO strategy

The February-to-April search spike for "Toronto accountant" and "CPA near me" is real and competitive. But the firms that win the long game are the ones that get cited in AI search for specific service queries year-round: "do I need a CPA for a holding company in Ontario," "how does the US-Canada tax treaty affect my income," "what does a T2 corporate return cost in Toronto," "can a CPA help me set up a family trust in Ontario." These are mid-funnel, high-intent queries from small business owners who are actively evaluating whether to hire. The AI engine that answers the question cites the firm whose site actually answers it.

CPA Ontario and the rules on public accounting claims

CPA Ontario regulates both CPAs and public accounting licensees. Firms providing public accounting services (auditing, review engagements, compilation) must hold a public accounting licence, and marketing claims must accurately reflect the firm's licensing and scope. Any firm calling itself a "full-service accounting firm" needs to be able to substantiate the claim. We write every service page with CPA Ontario's advertising guidelines applied: accurate scope claims, no guaranteed outcome language on tax savings, and clear statements of what the firm does and for whom. That structure makes the copy credible rather than generic, which is good marketing.

Per-service pages: what Toronto firms are missing

A CPA firm with a single "Services" page listing corporate tax, personal tax, bookkeeping, and payroll in four bullet points gets outranked and out-cited by a firm with dedicated pages for each. For the corporate side: corporate tax planning, T2 corporate returns, HST/GST compliance, payroll setup, holding company structures, shareholder agreements (in coordination with legal). For the personal side: T1 personal returns, self-employed and sole proprietor returns, rental income, foreign property (T1135), US-Canada cross-border (T1161, FBARs). For small business: bookkeeping, cloud accounting setup (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage), cash flow forecasting, year-end planning. Each page needs its own AccountingService or ProfessionalService schema block, its own FAQ section, and its own internal links to related services.

The cross-border niche in North York and Scarborough

The GTA has a substantial population of residents with US income, US retirement accounts (401(k), IRA, Roth IRA), foreign property, and cross-border business interests. North York, Scarborough, and Markham have clusters of firms that specialize in this. The AI queries are specific and high-intent: "do I need to file US taxes if I live in Toronto," "how does RRSP work with a US 401k," "Toronto CPA who does IRS voluntary disclosure." These queries convert at high rates because the client is already convinced they have a problem; they are only choosing who to call. A dedicated US-Canada cross-border tax page with proper schema, an FAQ section addressing FBAR and T1135 reporting, and honest content about the complexity of dual-filing earns those citations. Most Toronto CPA sites have none of this.

What we build and what it costs

The Site tier at $2,500 covers a landing page plus six to eight service pages with AccountingService and ProfessionalService schema, FAQPage markup, and the full AEO baseline. The Story tier at $5,000 extends to fifteen pages: the full service list, a Client Industries page (construction, real estate, professional services, tech), an About the Partners page with individual schema, and a content pipeline for tax-update posts. The Engine tier at $9,000 is for multi-partner or multi-location firms that need programmatic per-service, per-industry, and per-city pages with automated schema. Retainers start at Care ($60/mo) and scale to Growth ($700/mo) for four posts a month, brand-mention tracking, and link building through earned media. The free 24-page AEO audit shows which queries cite your firm today.

The year-round visibility case

The firms that grow in off-season are the ones whose sites answer small-business questions in May through January: "how do I set up payroll in Ontario for my first employee," "what is the small business deduction limit in 2025," "do I need a trust account if I am a sole proprietor." These are the questions that bring in new small-business clients before they have an accountant. The AEO setup turns the website from a tax-season brochure into a year-round referral asset.
