Most budgeting apps fail for the same reason: they feel like spreadsheets with better fonts. Niya was born from the belief that personal finance should feel personal — colourful, expressive, and free of the anxiety that usually accompanies money management.
The bold yellow interface is intentional. Research shows that warm, energetic palettes reduce the stress association people have with financial tools. Every spending category is represented by an emoji — 🍕 for dining, 🏠 for rent, 🎮 for entertainment — making the budget feel like a reflection of your life, not just your liabilities. Real-time spending tracking updates the moment a transaction clears, with gentle nudges (never shame) when a category is approaching its limit.
We designed the UX to remove every possible point of friction. Onboarding takes under 90 seconds. Connecting a bank account is a single tap via Plaid integration. The dashboard surfaces the one number that matters most: how much you can freely spend today without impacting your goals. Everything else is available but never forced on the user.
Built in React Native for iOS and Android with a Node.js backend, Niya proves that financial tools can be both powerful and delightful — and that good design is the best form of financial literacy.
